Pokegama and Proctor Power Shuffle

Looks like CN is shuffling the deck again when it comes to motive power assignments out of both Pokegama and Proctor.

I was out of town last week, but when I came back DM&IR 408 and IC 6253 were shoving trains out of Proctor instead of the IC 6204/6203. This is strange as the IC units have the Helper Link and it seems that CN shouldn't have lots of extra straight air power on the Missabe side.

The motive power on the Missabe side has been interesting lately the past couple of weeks with the addition of the SD40-2Ws hauling limestone and the two pairs of SD60Fs that have been mainly working Unitac and MRF assignments.

This afternoon I heard a Proctor Transfer leaving Pokegama with the IC 6253 and DM&IR 408 so I went out for a shot as they were talking about swapping power at Proctor. Up to the old Skyline Extension bridge and caught the SD40-3s taking a last break from ore runs.

I followed the train up to Proctor where they yarded the 52 cars. They were instructed to tie down their inbound engines and take the CN 5529 and 5548 and short transfer back down the hill to Pokey.
I waited at the bridge on the north end and was happy the sun came out before the big cowls rolled under.

I was surprised when watching the transfer roll away from the bridge that I noticed the silver Helper Link box was attached to the 5548. It look like the sharp cowls will be spending their time at Pokegama for the forseeable future. Not sure how the helper crews will like spending the warm days in these units.

The clouds were really starting to clear so I headed over to Stark Rd. on the Superior Sub. for one more shot. They sure look nice in pairs and I look forward in shooting them shoving trains up Steelton Hill.

So as far as the cowls go...to be continued as I will make a point to shoot them shoving.

As far as the 6253 and 408 goes they are settling back into mundane Missabe tasks like taking Unitac empties out of Proctor tonight.

No idea where the IC 6203 and 6204 are at, but if I had to guess I would say they are (were) somewhere inside at Proctor as it is probably their old Helper Link that is now on the cowls.

Can't say the CN motive power situation on the Missabe side or out of Pokegama is boring.
