The Schnabel

It wasn't all that long ago that Duluth was a key port of entry for large items heading to the oil sands project in northern Alberta. Once CN completed clearance upgrades out of Thunder Bay that port became the preferred route for such loads, although Duluth continues to handle high-wide shipments of various varieties. This 2005 shot shows the freshly painted Schnabel car departing Duluth with a huge pressure vessel for Canada. Since then another car similar to this has been built and CEBX 800 has been relocated away from Duluth, its home for most of its career (either stored or handling these type of loads). Enjoy the look back.
