As Dave pointed out over on Orerail it was cold and clear today, I managed to get out for a few hours this afternoon. Started with the BNSF switching in the yard. The ground crew looks to be dressed for the weather.

Headed West from there with the Grand Rapids turn getting ready to depart, went by Saunders, the old building that replaced Saunders tower is now gone and the back road South from West Saunders is closed off, no more short cuts. Decided to head to "Vet's crossing" Mertes Road for an inbound coal load, luckily the DPU was facing the right way for a change.

Went a little farther to MP 15.9 for the first shot of the Rapids Turn kicking up some snow.

They made a pickup at Chemstar in Carlton, usually done by the Brainerd Local but they didn't run today. First time I've shot them switching here. Some wavy track.

Headed to Cloquet as they slowed down to drop off most of their train here. Cold temps make for a steamy paper mill.

By then it was getting close to 3 pm, sun was sinking fast.
